Frequently Asked Questions

What is a countdown timer?
A countdown timer counts down from a set duration or target date to zero, then optionally alerts you with an audio chime. Used for cooking, workouts, presentations, study sessions, event tracking, and deadline management. Differs from a stopwatch which counts up from zero.
Can I run multiple countdowns at the same time?
Yes! This countdown timer supports multiple simultaneous countdowns. Add as many as you need โ€” each runs independently with its own display showing days, hours, minutes, and seconds. Perfect for tracking multiple deadlines, events, or cooking timers at once.
How do I share a countdown with someone?
Click the ๐Ÿ”— Share button on any active countdown to copy a shareable link. The link encodes the countdown parameters (target date or offset and event name) in the URL. When someone opens the link, the same countdown starts automatically in their browser.
Does the audio alert work in background tabs?
Web timers continue in background tabs but browsers may throttle them for performance. The countdown uses system timestamps so it stays accurate even when throttled. The audio alert plays when the tab is active. For best results, keep the tab visible or return to it when you expect the timer to finish.
What preset countdowns are available?
Quick presets include: New Year (next January 1st), and minute-based timers for 5, 10, 15, 30, and 60 minutes. Minute-based preset timers can be restarted after they complete. You can also set any custom date and time using the date picker.
What is the large display mode?
Large display mode increases the countdown number size for better visibility on big screens, presentations, or when viewing from a distance. Toggle it on using the "Large display" checkbox. Works great for event displays, classroom timers, and meeting countdowns.
